Kendal Christmas Light Switch On 2016 was a fantastic afternoon of Live entertainment on the Lakeland Radio stage in Kendal town centre, leading up to the big switch on.
Yakkers from Breakfast and John Pye from the Home Run were hosting the afternoon, and shared their "hilarious" humour with the crowd, with memorable Christmas puns such as Peas On Earth, and the Christmas Alphabet (Noel. Get it? No L...). Yep.
The live entertainment kicked off with a festive Burneside Brass Band, followed by Tread Production with a brilliantly colourful preview of Cinderella. Local singer songwriter Holly Lovelady was captivating with her version of A Spaceman Came Travelling. Singer Stuart Michaels then entertained the crowd with his best Robbie Williams and Olly Murs, and involved the kids in the audience getting them up on stage with him. The Happy Slappers wowed us with their eye-popping clapping routine, followed by mod mad Kev Kendal and "Elsie" his trusty guitar. The stunning vocals of Ashleigh Wood got the crowd going ready for Kendal's Stagecoach Theatre Arts. The final act of the day was X Factor's Paul Akister who didn't disappoint, and showed Kendal why he was a firm favorite on the show two years ago.
Santa and his elf then joined us on stage. The lights were switched on by the winner of Kendal's Unsung Hero, Raymond Watson. Thanks to Phil and the team from Lancastrian Estates for sponsoring the search. Raymond had been nominated by the public for his work over the years teaching youngsters to swim. After 50 years as a swimming coach he decided to retire at the mere age of 82! He was introduced by MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, Tim Farron.
There was so much going on in the rest of town as well: Christmas markets, Santa and his Reindeer, food and drink...
Huge thanks to the event sponsors: Castle Green Hotel, Wainwright's Yard, Elephant Yard, Kendal Town Council, and Kendal BID.
What a fantastic way to begin the festive season and get everyone in the Christmas mood!
