Local People Urged To Give Blood Over Christmas

The NHS is encouraging local people to give blood over Christmas, with sessions taking place in Kendal, Lancaster and Morecambe.

Joanne Leeman, Donor Marketing Operations Coordinator, said: "We are asking our loyal donors to make and keep their date to donate in the build up to Christmas.

"With the weather getting worse, people finding themselves busy with festive break and the rise in colds and bugs, giving blood and platelets slips off the nation’s to-do lists.

"All blood groups are being asked to make and keep their life saving appointment in the build up to Christmas, but we particularly need vulnerable groups like O-neg, B-neg and A-neg platelets.

"We need more donors from these groups to come forward - black donors are especially likely to have rare blood types.

The sessions will be held at the following venues:
- Tuesday 19th December at The TA Centre, Caton Road in Lancaster: 14:45 – 16:45 & 17:45 – 19:45

- Sunday 24th December at The Castle Green Hotel, Castle Green Lane, Kendal: 10:20 – 13:20
(Appointments only for people who have donated in last two years)

- Saturday 30th December at The Platform, Station Buildings, Morecambe: 10:20 – 13:20
(Appointments only for people who have donated in last two years)

- Lancaster Donor Centre in the Royal Lancaster Infirmary is open at various times:

·  Week commencing 18th December on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Christmas Eve on Sunday
·  Week commencing 25th December on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday
